Will Eisner - Comic and Sequential Art

 Today I am researching about Will Eisner,

he is an American cartoonist, writer, and entrepreneur. 

I choose him to research because he is related to my Art Portfolio Project and  I liked his works he is been in this sector around 1930's and when I looked at his book called Comic and Sequential Art and I said it can help me with this project, give me inspirations and ideas. 

The book shows how emotions can be shown with just one word, body movements, and posture. It also explains how different styles of speech bubbles can show different emotions and emphasize important parts of a story. 

Eisner talks about how perspective can change the meaning and value of a scene.

 He gives good examples of how to create a storyboard for comics. I will use this book to get ideas and inspiration for my project.

Art Portfolio ONE: Project Statement

For my AP1 Project, I will create a short comic book with 4 to 6 pages inspired by Turkish mythology and culture, aimed at young adults.

The story follows a mystical and emotional journey. It begins with a character having a dream of  Wolf Asena, a creature that related to Gokturk  myths. The wolf warns of approaching shadow creatures that threaten the balance of the world. The main character wakes up to find that the dream was a call to action, as these shadowy figures begin to invade their village.

Guided by the Wolf, the character goes on a journey to restore balance and protect their home. The adventure leads them to a mysterious ancient gate, where they must face their fears and make a hard
decision to save their world.

I will use the Expressionism art style for this comic, emphasizing dramatic emotions, vibrant colors, and dynamic visuals to bring the story to life. Over six weeks, I will develop the narrative and characters through sketches and explore various artistic techniques.

First Thoughts

Expressionism feels close to me because it matches my creative style and ideas. The "Earthly Delights" style feels unrelated to my subject area, so I won’t use it. 

 I think Bauhaus is more suited for Architecture students because of its focus on design and structure. 

Mixed media art seems more connected to fine artists, which isn’t my field. That’s why I’ve decided to focus on Expressionism for my work.

Welcome to New Term of 2025!

Welcome to my blog in the new term of 2025! 

I feel this year will be more challenging than the first. During the one-month holiday before starting the second term, I began watching new anime series and playing choice-based games related to my major. I think my perspective is now a bit wider than it was last term.

The game I finished is called The Wolf Among Us, in this game we control the Wolf called Bigby, the sheriff of the Fabletown and we are trying to solve the Red Hood's murder. 

This story is related to a comic called The Fables. Its actually the classic child story characters as we all have familiar with, the wolf that we are controlling is the same wolf of the story in Little Red Riding Hood.

The character design and the choice of the style is taking me into the story.

The Comic Book style is so fitted the game.

The choices you make is so important in the game because if you make mistakes there is no turning back and that makes the story so special for each player.

At the first day of school we Recreated an Art Work for the Icebreaking task We used this image

Then we find a blanked for the background of the right side

After that we started taking the pictures but first some bloopers

Lastly the results and a compare to the original image.

 I used the site called 'flipsnack' I choose a font and the headings, then I added a comic background images at the bottom to make a pattern, annd I uploaded images that I edited on Pixlr,

Concept and Comic ConceptBoard/Flipbook

 

Today I created a concept board using Photoshop for my concept and comic art project 'Creating Characters'

I began by creating a canvas, I clicked on 'File' and then 'New' in the top menu on Photoshop and then I clicked on A4.  I chose portrait orientation, and then just a grey background that just looks like a basement.

Then I added my character and a description of that character for lastly I added my logo on the right hand corner, I choose georgia font for my text because it was looking elegant.

After I finished the page of my flipbook I clicked save then I downloaded as a jpg format

I then continued this until I reach the 6 characters

This character actually called Cypher but in writing is Cipher.

I will show all these characters in a flip book.

Creating a Website: Contact Page & Social Links

 This is my contact and social links for my website first is my contact page, I want to make it simple and understandable my site name was on the left top hand corner, social links and the menu buttons are on the right top hand side corner.

The contact details are in the middle of the page and the bottom part have a button that takes you to the "HOME PAGE" when you click it. 

These are the social links that I putted on my website in the future I might be add more or deleted on the circumstances but for now they are looking nice.

I've putted my YouTube, discord, Instagram and TikTok of my channel and also the Blogger and Instagram Sketchbook that I created and uploaded every week for my School works.

Software Practice/Costumer Profile

 

Today I am going to create a costumer profile in Photoshop as software practice and to show who my target market is.

I began by opening Photoshop and clicking on 'New File' and then a dialog box opens.  In this box I go to the top menu and clicked on 'Print' and then 'view all presets'  I then chose A4 size as I will be creating a book cover and I checked that the resolution was 300ppi so that the work would be of printable quality.  I then chose the background colour as white and then I clicked on 'create' and now have a white canvas to work on.

My next step was to go to unsplash to find a suitable image to mock up my front cover.  I found the right colourful image and downloaded this onto my desktop at a high resolution.  I then went to 'File' on the top menu and then 'open'.  I then again went to the top menu and then clicked on 'Select' and in the drop down box 'Select All' and then I went 'Edit' in the top menu and then in the drop down box 'Copy'.  Then went back to my canvas tab and clicked on 'Edit' and then 'Paste.  I then used the transform control to drag the image over the edges of the canvas to cover the page. I then clicked on the top tool (Move tool) in the left hand menu to ensure that the transform of the image stayed in position. 

Tyler Edline & Maciej Kuciara : Website Evaluation & Comparison

 In this post I will be comparing the websites of Tyler Edline and Maciej Kuciara. I will be looking at the design , layout, colour pattern, technical aspects such as ease of use, presentation of galleries and how easy to use and understand the artist.

Tylor Edline

I will start with Tyler Edline and his website. The website is well presented, at the home page he show his portfolio, full gallery of his works, his print product shop and tutorials. In the header there is a navigation that includes his Home, gallery, mentorship, tutorials, shop and contact pages. Page look is simple but clear you can find pages easily. 

On his Contact page he putted his short information and contact sheet on the bottom of the page his email attached. The biography about what works he done and giving information about himself.

Maciej Kuciara

The second website I've been looking at is Maciej Kuciara . This website gives us a short but fascinating short video show. Her works were shown at the homepage on the bottom if the homepage she gave his social media links. on top of the page Film, Art, Photography, shop, Tutorials and her about page. 

On her About page she gave information about her and her works with a fascinating background of her cosplay images, she gave Exhibitions/Shows, Clients, Ventures etc. and I think she designed her website very well and well designed, the site can attract people.

Bio of (Serkan) Me:

Hello, Hola, Bonjour, Merhaba, My name is Serkan Omer Bali but I mostly use my first name, I just want to make a warm hello to my bio :). I am 19 years old, I am from Turkiye (Yep, It's Turkiye not Turkey) and  I've been away from my home country almost 3,5 years, I miss there so much, I am living in Leicester, UK. I'm currently studying in DMUIC Art & Design .

 I am a Concept and Comic Art's Student and I really want to be in a Concept Character Designing and Comic writing crew in the future, I am into  drawing since my childhood, my mom actually very good at art and she inspires me to draw and make structures, that's why I'm so much into making little statues, and drawing. The series of Marvel gets me into Art, I follow artist on YouTube to understand the drawing techniques.

I'm currently working in a Charity called Dialogue Society my job is editing the special day posts, I am a "Social Media Content Specialist for Awareness Days" also you can call "Social Media Content Creator" I've been working for volunteer there for almost 3 years. Here is a short info of Dialogue Society: The Dialogue Society is a registered charity, established in London in 1999 with the aim of advancing social cohesion by connecting communities, empowering people to engage and contributing to the development of ideas on dialogue and community building. (Dialogue Society, 2023) .

I also have a YouTube Channel (Alcyone Gaming, n.d.) mostly about mobile games cause the time I started making videos I haven't got a pc, I been active during the Corona Lockdown time cause there is nothing to do and we all stuck in houses, on TikTok I make an edit videos about cars and motorcycles sometimes I edit videos that already exist with different editing for fun. I mostly play online FPS games in my free time (if I don't have more important works than that) I also play RPG games to escape the reality to discover new worlds that are more interesting and inspiring for my designs and life choices. 

The word "Future" scares me a lot because I can't even express myself at the mean time but, I want to work with a group of Comic and Concept Artist to create a comic book story and also I want to work at a big, famous game company like Riot Games, where I can design characters and environments for their games, especially the series of Arcane and also I want to make concept design for weapon skins in Valorant.

Creating a Website: Social Media & Contact Page

Today I created my contact page and I began by creating a new page I did this by clicking on the left hand side menu button for menu and pages.  I then clicked on 'add page' and created a new 'contact' page.  I then added added a new contact form by clicking on the left hand side menu 'Add' button and choosing 'Contact and forms'. Then I added my socials such as Instagram, Pinterest and Blogger. 

 

I added a contact page and deleted the useless pages, I added a image for the background of Contact and I used simple background for the page. 

Then I started organizing the page for Mobile, It took a long time cause all the socials, texts, and borders mixed up but I organized it all.

I then previewed and check ed that everything worked.
